BOOKKEEPER AND PAYROLL CLERK

We are seeking someone to serve as the church bookkeeper. This person will work with the finance committee, church secretary, pastor, deacons, and other ministerial staff.  The bookkeeper ensures that all church finances are maintained accurately and all monies received and to be paid are handled in a timely manner.

 

The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining all the church account ledgers and producing regular financial reports for the church.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Born-again Christian with a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Regular attender of any local Christian church.

  • Three years of accounting experience, or a college degree in business.

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, internal control policies, and procedures

  • Well-organized with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality

  • Proficient with web-based banking applications as well as accounting software (including Excel,

  • Quickbooks and Servant Keeper) or ability to learn these programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process, record, and deposit all offerings received by the church at least once a week.

  • Review all invoices, verify charges (if necessary) assure appropriate approvals and assign to proper accounts.

  • Keep accurate records of all receipts and expenditures.

  • Complete payments of church obligations, obtain signatures for checks (when needed). Mail/disburse checks to payees.

  • Verify employee payroll for the 15th and 30th of each month, assure these direct deposits are completed and keep accurate records of payroll.

  • Assure that federal withholding (payroll) is sent regularly.

  • Complete monthly financial reports for the finance committee, and for the church family.

  • Maintain and monitor all financial activities in our electronic banking system.

  • Assist finance committee with preparation of church annual budget.

  • Act as a liaison between banks (or other institutions who hold church assets) and the church.

  • Provide support to the pastor and ministerial staff, as needed.
